New Year's Resolution: Re-Start the blog

Perhaps we were just ahead of the curve back when we started this blog.  Now it seems that a blog is an essential business tool!

I am glad.  I write several blogs on personal topics but the topic closest to my heart will always be "Isla", the company/catalog/website I founded almost 20 years ago!  I am looking forward to getting this blog up and running and taking it in a new direction, too.

So, for this first post of a new year, I am going to point you to our Exclusive Isla 2013 Puerto Rico Calendar.

Modestly, I will admit that all of the photographs that are in this catalog were taken by me and my husband, Gerry Cumpiano.  I did the layout and I did all the research for the historical facts and famous Puerto Rican birthdays that are included.

I got the idea to include the famous Puerto Ricans because so many of these names grace our streets and institutions, and it is a real shame not to know who these people are and why they are celebrated.  Something that is understandable in tourists and transplants, but really not acceptable for Puerto Ricans proud of their heritage.  I am hoping that the scant information the calendar provides will be a jumping off place for curiosity and a first step toward finding out more about these people.

I certainly learned a lot putting the calendar together! I'd like to expand it too.  One of the ideas I have is to conduct a poster contest to celebrate the lives and achievements of famous Puerto Rican Women. Women, or men, I welcome input and suggestions for future editions.
