New Santos from Ponce

Last week, Gerry and I made a trip down to Ponce to pick up a special order mask for a customer.  We took advantage of the trip and went to visit the Orta family workshop, looking for a particular santo that another customer was interested in.  I cannot resist beautiful work, so we came back with all of these new wood carvings.

This is the San Rafael, that a customer was looking for. We also brought back these two Virgins:
Virgen de Guadalupe
Virgen de la Providencia

And I thought this set of Reyes, the center one with a cape like the Puerto Rican flag, was particularly attractive, too.

If you are interested in seeing them on the website, here are the links.
San Rafael          Guadalupe         Providencia        Three Kings

I also found this link to another blog posting about the Orta family that might interest you.

And here, is a picture of the three Orta brothers responsible for the latest additions to the Isla catalog.

And another picture showing their workshop the day we were there.
